My brother suggested I read this book. It is about the fall of some civilizations, like the vikings and mayans. Jared Diamond is the author of the book. In the books he explains why civilizations fail or succeed. I think it looks pretty interesting. I probably won't have time to read it until this summer though. Its like 500 pages long.

Wow! That is a really long book, but if the book is good, it will go by fast. One book that I read this year was about that long and I hated to put it down, because it was just that good!

That sounds like a really interesting book. If you've got an interest in the way that societies function, you may also be interested in a book called "Why Societies Need Dissent," by Cass R. Sunstein, which is an excellent examination of the ways in which mass conformism is detrimental to a society's intellect and structure. While it isn't a broad spectrum look at civilizations, it does provide valuable insight into the human elements that compromise a proper society.
