THE DRAMMMMA!

So, we are reading To Kill A Mockingbird! At first, it was a bore, and very hard to read. Now, it is full of excitment!! Lets start way back around chapter 12. After Atticus leaves for his business trip, the children are left with Cal. She decides to take them to her church on Sunday, and it may have been a huge mistake. The first few minutes they are there, Lula, a regular attender makes a huge fuss about how white children should go to a white church. Everyone else pushes her down and church begins.

The weirdest part i have read so far in the book happened right after this. As soon as the offering was collected, Reverend Sykes decided it wasn't enough. He responds by locking the doors and forcing the congregation to give up every dime they have. I think I was the only one freaking out! The whole church acted like it was a regular thing to be threatened and forced to splurge on the offering at church. I wondered if this was only common at black churches, or if it just happened because of the time period.

A few chapters later, we find out that Dill comes home. Scout is very excited, but Jem's "maturity" kicks in, and Dill learns that they won't be having to much fun for the rest of the summer.

By the next time i blog, i will be almost done with the book. It is very exciting, and i can't wait to see what happens next.

What did you all think of this incident? Wasn't it totally crazy?

Have a nice weekend :D

That was weird, I've never been to or heard of a church where they single you out to put in money. It was bizarre.

what would happen if you couldn't pay anymore?
like, if that was your money to buy..food or something?
would they just keep you locked up in there until more money came falling through the ceiling?!

weird.
